Training gear boost for Dates Eleven

Ashley Smith
//Karas second division winners, Dates Eleven, were boosted in their preparations for their much-anticipated Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) playoffs, after they were sponsored with training gear by a Keetmanshoop businessman last week.

Henry Jongwe, the owner of Henimma Investments, handed over 30 T-shirts and seven balls to the value of N$6 800 to Dates Eleven at his business premises in the southern town.

Team manager Andries Wimmerth said the sponsorship just came at the right time.

“We are over the moon about this gesture shown by [Jongwe]. We have been crying for years to have a uniformed look as a team when travelling, and this sponsorship has boosted the boys to do well at the playoffs,” Wimmerth said.

He said Jongwe has been a pillar when it comes to assisting teams in the region.

“I am calling on other businesses to emulate him and plough back into the community. Every business has a social responsibility towards the community that supports them,” he said.

Dates Eleven will battle in the playoffs against regional second division winners from Omaheke, Tura Cosmos, Eleven Champions from Khomas, the Hardap Correctional Facility team and Swakopmund Football Club for one of the three spots in the SSFD next season.

Dates Eleven were relegated from the SSFD along with Hardap Boys at the end of the 2015/16 season.
