The Dogg rocked it
'This is it' was truly everything it promised to be.
The Dogg's concert and charity cup last Saturday drew thousands of revellers who came to witness the musical display on offer from the award-winning kwaito artist himself, and a variety of guest performers.
According to The Dogg, whose real name is Martin Morocky, the event held at the University of Namibia soccer stadium, attracted well over 10 000 music fans.
He told Nampa that though the event was billed as his final show, he would still perform “when called to do so”.
He also said the concert and charity cup will now be an annual event, with the next one scheduled to take place on 28 September 2019.
“We have decided to make it an annual festival where local artists can perform and fans can just enjoy music. It is going to be a yearly Mshasho thing,” he said, referring to his label.
The Dogg also mentioned that he was happy with the turnout and to see people showing him and the other artists that performed “so much love”.
“For a local show, it was truly something amazing to see so many people and the artists that performed did not disappoint the fans,” he added.
One surprise of the night was when local artist Sunny Boy called his girlfriend on stage during his set, going down on one knee and proposing to her.
Tanzanian artist Diamond Platinumz gave a stellar performance that had the massive crowd going wild with excitement.
Rapper KK on his part also noted that for a local show, the event attracted a huge crowd and he personally thinks The Dogg still has some years in him to be in the music industry.
“He still has a lot to offer in terms of music, but these are personal decisions,” he noted, referring to The Dogg's decision to call it a day.
Duo Tswazi said they enjoyed their performance and were glad to have performed on the occasion “and be part of history”.
Artist Kalux commented that the industry will not be the same without The Dogg, saying: “He is one of the people who made the world take notice of Namibian musicians.”
