Simply You Magazine awards new winners with a touch of vintage entertainment and a stunning green carpet.

As promised, it was a night of glitz, glamour and taking it way back into time. The Simply You Magazine Lifestyle and Fashion Awards (SYMLAFA), powered by the Namibia Diamond Trading Company, took place last weekend the National Theatre of Namibia.

Literally closing down the road, Robert Mugabe Avenue transformed into a runway for breathtaking red carpet fashion, but this time, SYMLAFA welcomed spring in true style as they rolled out a grass carpet instead of the traditional red; it was the first day of spring after all. The night kicked off with an act straight from the theatre as Michael Pulse delivered a performance that was acted out in a short play set in a bar with him as a bartender. The delivery was magnified as the Equipped Dance Academy dancers emphasised the story Michael Pulse told through his music with their moves.

The first award for the night went to Merja Iileka who was crowned favourite photographer of the year. Paying tribute to those who helped build the foundation of the Namibian sound, artist Top Cheri took the audience back with an impressive interpretation of Lady May's 'Chokola'. The rest of the night was graced with more winners and more epic performances that had everybody in the crowd dancing along and singing to each line. One of the highlight performances included that by 'Elago' hit maker Killa B. The night also had a tribute performance to the late Catty Cat from the 061 Crew with some of their hits.

The winners truly appreciated their accolades as some of them were drawn to tears; others were left speechless as it was their first-ever award. Musician, actress, songwriter and philanthropist Lize Ehlers walked away with the Diamond award for her work in Windhoek and surrounding areas.
