Nchindo Mayumbelo is a a geography grade 10 and 11 teacher at Jan Jonker Afrikaner High School
1. Why did you decide to be a teacher?
Well, it is prudent to say that in the past the teaching profession was held in high regard and as a consequence many of us opted to pursue a career in the profession. It was a calling for me to join the profession.
2. What were your aspirations at a younger age?
My aspirations were to complete my education, join politics, rise through the ranks and eventually reach the pinnacle and become the president of the Republic of Namibia.
3. What motivates you to get up every morning to go to work?
The sheer desire of seeing my learners strive for success motivates me daily.
4. What is one of the biggest lessons you’ve learnt from one of your learners?
A lesson that destitution is not an excuse not to receive education.
5. How long have you been a teacher?
For 15 years.
6. What is your favourite book and favourite place to visit in Namibia?
Favourite Book: ;The Audacity of Hope; by Barrack Obama, the 44th president of the United States of America.
Favourite Place: Etosha National Park.
7. Tell us about your journey.
I was born and raised at Bukalo in the former Caprivi Region, now Zambezi. I received my primary and secondary education in that region. Upon completing matric I moved to Windhoek to pursue tertiary education. I was employed as a teacher upon completion of my studies at the above-mentioned secondary school.
