SSFD promotion battle thrills
Eleven Champions, Hardap Correctional Facility and Swakopmund Football Club (FC) were promoted to the Southern Stream First Division (SSFD) on Sunday, after they ended in the top three of a five-team mini-league.
In the matches played at the Vineta and Swakopmund stadiums, Hardap Correctional Facility collected seven points, while Eleven Champions and Swakopmund FC collected six and five points, respectively.
In the opening match on Saturday, //Karas regional winners, Dates Eleven, lost 1-2 to Hardap Correctional Facility in a match marred by three Dates Eleven players breaking their legs.
Home team and Erongo regional winners, Swakopmund FC, hammered Omaheke regional winners Tura Cosmos 9-1, while Dates Eleven lost 2-3 against Khomas winners, Eleven Champions.
Hardap Correctional Facility defeated Tura Cosmos 3-1 in their second match, while Swakopmund and Dates Eleven played to a 2-2 draw.
Tura Cosmos then lost 2-3 to Eleven Champions, while the Swakopmund FC and Hardap Correctional Facility clash ended 2-2.
The matches scheduled for Sunday between Swakopmund FC and Eleven Champions, as well as Tura Cosmos and Dates Eleven and Eleven Champions and Hardap Correctional Facility, were not played as they would not have impacted on the promotion battle.
