Paralympian Ananias Shikongo was close to breaking the world record in the T11 200m semi-finals yesterday when he crossed the line in 22:48 seconds.
Shikongo now holds the Paralympic record, while the world record of 22:41 is held by American David Brown.
Shikongo will be in action in the final today at 22:21 Namibian time, while the current T13 100m silver medallist, Johannes Nambala, will compete in the 400m final at 17:12.
Johanna Benson failed to secure a medal at this year’s Paralympic Games in all the three events she competed in.
Benson’s last event was the long jump, in which she won a silver medal at the 2012 Paralympic Games, but all her attempts were weak.
Her first attempt was 3:61 metres, her second jump reached only 3:58m, her third attempt 3:60m. Her fourth attempt was even weaker than the first three as she only managed to jump 3.48 metres, and 3:50m in the fifth attempt.
After six attempts, Benson ranked sixth.
Benson achieved a personal best of 14:16 seconds in the 100m final where she ended seventh. She finished last in the 400m final on Tuesday.
Powerlifter Roben Soroseb ended ninth in the men’s 107kg category.
Soroseb lifted 190kg in his second attempt but failed in his last attempt to lift 200kg.
