Sauyemwa irked by unsolved murders

The residents of Rundu’s Sauyemwa township say they are fed up with dead bodies being found floating in the Kavango River or in their backyards, yet no justice is served as far as the culprits being arrested and tried.
The community is demanding a police substation and regular patrols along the river.
This was said during a protest in Rundu on Friday where community members of Sauyemwa went to the office of the Kavango East regional governor, Bonifatius Wakudumo, where they handed over a petition.
The body of Sauyemwa resident Engidius Kayanguya (35) was found floating on the Kavango River two weeks ago after he had allegedly crossed illegally into Angola with a friend.
The friend is currently in police custody for protection from disgruntled residents who want to take the law into their own hands.
Kayanguya’s body was mutilated, leading to rumours that it was a muti murder.
Unsolved
The petitioners expressed concern about the crimes happening in their community.
They listed a number of unsolved crimes in the area.
“In 2016, there was a man found dead at Sauyemwa river banks; up to now nothing has been done in that respect. In 2017, there was a woman who was also found dead and up to now nobody is charged or arrested in connection with her murder,” the petition reads.
“In 2019, an old woman was killed in her house after getting paid her monthly social grant.
“In the same year, a man was picked up by his friends in the morning hours; the next day the man was found dead in his yard; up to date no suspects are found to these murder activities.
“These are just few incidents that are bringing trauma/fear/unrest to people living in our community. We are victims of crime of daily basis as people get robbed and even killed.”
It is on that basis the community is demanding a police substation as well as a patrol team to patrol streets and along the riverbanks.
