Safety still matters on independence weekend
It is important that Namibian road users become more vigilant when driving on our national roads. It is an eye-opener that when you are the one who is steering the wheel, you have the responsibility to obey every applicable traffic rule and be a responsible driver.
However, it is quite evident that despite the constant reminders and warnings through national road safety campaigns, there are still drivers and other road users who refuse to follow traffic rules.
Efforts have been made to improve road safety campaigns and piloting of road safety messages to the target groups have been undertaken, but despite the financial and human resources applied to initiatives, road user behaviour has not changed.
The weekend of the 21 March 2020 will be a busy one for motorists on Namibia’s roads as families will be flocking from different parts of the country in celebration of Namibia’s 30th Independence Day. In anticipation of the extra volume of traffic on our national roads, it is important for motorists to drive carefully and be alert during this weekend. Motor vehicle accidents have serious consequences and leave families with trauma and financial burdens to either arrange funerals for their loved ones or to carry their hospital bills due to serious injuries.
We call upon road users to #DoTheRightThingAndSaveLives during our 30th independence celebrations.
