Relocation of Ondangwa residents continues
Affected residents are responding to the relocation at a slow pace, the town council says.
ONDANGWA – Half of more than 100 Ondangwa residents set for relocation from the Uutala area have been moved to Onantsi where they will receive serviced plots.
Some 120 residential plots of 300-400 square metres each will be created at Onantsi, and spokesperson of the council, Petrina Shitalangaho on Friday told Nampa the relocation process is progressing well.
The Uutala location is situated next to the head office of the Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (Nored). According to the council spokesperson, Petrina Shitalangaho, the area is zoned for business. It only has community water points and currently has no electricity.
The council noted an increase in illegal settlers at Uutala in 2016 and decided to move them to a new site at its own costs.
Since April this year, the settlers are being moved to Onantsi in the southern part of 101 Oluno base of the Namibian Defence Force.
“Each of the settlers will be issued with a title deed for the plot provided with the basic services,” Shitalangaho said.
Costs
The council provides free transportation for the settlers during their relocation. The registration of new plots is free.
Shitalangaho said the new Onantsi township will be provided with electricity, water for each household and septic tanks, while the sewerage system is being constructed as a long-term remedy.
The costs involved in the preparation of Onantsi township are N$500 000 for water supply, N$2 million for electrification, N$4.5 million for compensation, N$750 000 for surveying and N$650 000 for planning.
