MTC's Tim Ekandjo has dealt with the issue of why boxing is being used as part of the MTC Knockout project to raise awareness and assist those who are victims of gender-based violence (GBV).

“We are having this event because we want to fight for social change with the emphasis on GBV. Also, importantly we want to raise funds which will go to a local charity dealing with GBV,” explained Ekandjo.

The boxing event at the Windhoek Country Club Resort on Saturday will see nine fights between local personalities.

They received three months of training from experienced MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing Academy and MTC Salute Boxing Academy trainers.

Mufaro Nesongano will take on Matthew 'Mappz' Kapofi, while KP Illest will climb into the ring with Paul da Prince.

Joseph 'Jossy Joss' Ailonga will trade punches with Theo Ishuna, while D-Naff will fight Amos Kambonde and DJ Cheeze will take on Sunny Boy. Johnny Doeseb and Job Amupanda will also clash, while Sam Shivute faces MAX-T.

Michael Vermeulen and Tate Buti are also ready to rumble, while Paulus 'Weah' Shipanga and Dokkies Schmidt round off the fight card.

The boxers attended an entertaining weigh-in at Post Street Mall yesterday afternoon, where a crowd gathered to watch and listen to their favourites promising their opponents a first-round knockout.

“We have been quiet for too long about this matter as men. We read the articles and see the reports on TV, but it continues to happen in our society.

“It will take each and every one of us to knockout GBV out of Namibia. So come through to watch me knockout Jossy Joss and of course GBV,” Ishuna said.

General tickets are selling for N$250, while VIP seats cost N$10 000.
