Rape, murder and baby dumping stains 2021

A newborn baby was rescued by the police after her mother buried her alive in a mahangu field in the Ohangwena region.

A 24-year-old woman allegedly buried her baby girl alive after giving birth to her on Saturday at Oupili village in the Oshikunde Constituency.

According to the police, the woman gave birth without informing anyone in the house and then buried her new born baby in their mahangu field. The baby was buried in a shallow grave.

Fortunately, the baby was rescued by detectives four hours later and taken to the Okongo Hospital. The baby is currently receiving medical attention and is in a stable condition.

The woman has been arrested and admitted to the Okongo Hospital under police guard.



Rape surge

A 67-year-old deaf woman was raped by a 33-year-old man at Eyanda Village in the Outapi Constituency on Thursday.

According to the police the man entered the woman's house, grabbed her and raped her. The man has been arrested.

In another incident at Rehoboth, a woman was raped by two men on Thursday.

The men apparently went to the house of the complainant's sister, who sells traditional brew, and asked the complainant and her friend to accompany them back to their home.

After having a few glasses of wine, the two men allegedly demanded sex from the two women. One of the women went outside to use the toilet and one of the suspects followed her and grabbed and covered her mouth with his hand. She managed to flee.

However, the man went back inside the house where he and his friend overpowered the other woman and took turns raping her. The suspects are unknown.



Fatal stabbing

At Mondesa in Swakopmund, two suspects were arrested on Saturday for stabbing a man to death.

The suspects, aged 16 and 19, allegedly arrived uninvited at the deceased's house and a quarrel broke out. During the ensuing fight the deceased, identified as Brenden Naibab, was stabbed in the chest.

In a separate incident at the Rundu State Hospital, Rachael Shiwedha (26) died of head injuries after being pushed to the floor by a fellow patient in the women's psychiatric ward on Wednesday. No arrest has been made.



Electrocuted

In Wanaheda, Windhoek, a 24-year-old man was electrocuted on Wednesday while trying to illegally connect electricity under a bridge. The deceased was identified as Michael Ashiti.



Missing child

A search operation is continuing at Lüderitz after Mandela Nakale (4) went missing. He was last seen more than a week ago when he was playing with other children about a kilometre from Area 7.

According to the police the search was aided by a helicopter, local police officers, Special Reserve Force members and also community members.

“Regrettably, there was no success in recovering the missing child and the search continues,” the police said.
