Promoters wait for Nestor's invitation

Rival boxing promoters insist that the MTC Nestor 'Sunshine' Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy's matchmaker is the one who has to approach them for their boxers, and not the other way around.

Some promoters say they have already submitted names to challenge Nestor Tobias's boxers but were told to wait for the later card as the one of 7 November is full. The promoters responded to an article that was published in Monday's Sport Wrap print edition where Tobias invited promoters willing to work with him to submit the names of their boxers.

The owner of the African Connection (AC) Boxing and Fitness Academy, Immanuel 'Imms' Moses, said it is up to Nestor's matchmaker to invite them. “There is nothing like that about us reaching out to the other promoter but his matchmaker must actually come to us and request for our fighters. “I will not be able to stand up and go to submit the names of my boxers to a boxing card that I am not staging,” Moses said.

Waiting for invitations

Power-Power Development and Boxing Academy promoter Risto Ashikoto, on the other hand, said he had submitted some names about a week ago and he was told the card for 7 November is full.

“The matchmaker contacted me and told me that the boxing card is full and we will have to wait for another event from Sunshine. “We have enough boxers ready to fight at any given day and we just wait for a greenlight from Nestor,” Ashikoto said.

Get work for boxers

Tobias urged promoters not to always expect a matchmaker at their doorstep, given that his academy would not know what the other promoters have to offer.

He therefore pleaded with the other promoters to make their boxers known by submitting their names.

“It is not always that you will have a matchmaker coming to you, but sometimes you have to go out there and look for work for your boxers.

“I myself do not also always sit and wait for matchmakers to come to me but I go look for fights for my boxers and that what is supposed to happen.

“It was just a friendly request from me and people must not politicise it,” Tobias said.
