Political Messages

Elago Amuthenu (CoD president)

Independence Day is a very special day for all Namibians. This is the day that gave birth to the independence that we are enjoying today. A few days after independence, this day was significant and worth celebrating, but today it is no worth celebrating because the general public has nothing to celebrate, because people are in poverty. My message to the government of the day is that they must deviate from politicising independence celebrations, so that they can accommodate every Namibian. National events have been turned into Swapo days and those going for commemorations do no come back with anything, because all the messages are just about the history of who did what and do not address national issues.

Epafras Jan Mukwiilongo (NEFF president)

We are thankful that we achieved 30 years of independence, but we must also wake up to the fact that as a nation, political independence alone is nothing. We can see there are many pressure groups established and we also see the kind of political system that has emerged after 30 years of independence. As political leaders we must start delivering on our political promises. Political leadership must also learn to listen to the masses, irrespective of their political differences, in order to avoid chaos in the country.

Esther Muinjangue (Nudo president)

Thirty years of independence must bring landmark achievements on our political landscape. Politicians who are serving in the National Assembly are expected to deliver research-based arguments that make significant improvements to people’s live. The masses must see and enjoy the benefits from the people they have elected into decision-making positions.

Shumbwa Nangolo (APP vice-president)

A lot of tangible development has happened since Namibia gained independence and this is worth celebrating. However, 30 years of independence is nothing because there are no opportunities for people who need employment or businesses. Instead of our economy growing or improving, it is going backward. Independence of a nation that is in poverty is meaningless. Politicians need get serious and put the nation first, instead of putting themselves and their families first in a selfish manner.
