Player of season to be crowned
The MTC Namibia Premier league (NPL) Awards will be held at the Safari Hotel on Friday.
The race to choose the MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) player of the season is on, with the names of the three candidates having now emerged.
African Stars and league top goal scorer Panduleni Nekundi will be vying for the award against Unam's Marcel Papama and Black Africa's Dynamo Fredericks.
The three players will also go head-to-head in the players' player of the season award.
The prestigious player of the season award comes with a prize of N$30 000, while players player award recipient will take home N$20 000.
The nominations for the players of the season category was done by the coaches of the 16 clubs that participated in the 2017/18 season.
The players were nominated for having good all-round statistics and for being a team player.
Another criteria used in this category was that the player must have shown respect to those in authority throughout the season.
The players nominated showed passion for the game and had a consistent and positive attitude.
The players' player of the season nominees were nominated by the captains of the 16 NPL clubs.
Another category which will be hotly contested is the coach of the season award.
This category will see league winning African Stars coach Bobby Samaria challenge top four finishers Marley Ngarizemo ( Young African) and Gerhardt Hengari of Mighty Gunners.
The coaches were nominated based on them setting the foundation for their respective teams.
The coaches were nominated by their coaching foes in the premier league. The prize money for the coach of the season award is N$20 000.
Jackson Pavaza, Willem Haitembu and Nehemia Shooveleka were nominated for the referee of the season award. The three referees were nominated by the country's refereeing body and not by the players or the NPL. This award comes with a cash prize of N$10 000.
The top goal scorer of the season award is going to African Stars Panduleni Nekundi, who bagged 15 goals during the 2017/18 season.
