Namibian cyclist Loto Petrus will miss the Tour de Windhoek on 23 to 24 October, his team NCCS has said.
Petrus was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the B1 road on Friday when an unidentified driver smashed into his bike and fled the scene.
The Namibian Cleaning Chemical Solutions (NCCS) Pro Cycling team said he hasn't suffered any broken bones but will be out of action for the race, which has been postponed twice due to Covid-19 pandemic.
One of the co-owners of the club, Ebben-Ezer Iita, said they might replace him with a guest cyclist from neighbouring South Africa or Botswana.
He further urged motorists to drive carefully. “If you hit a cyclist, runner or pedestrian, do not drive away, you might save a life.”
Other cyclists from team NCCS who will make the competition are Makenzy Eiseb, Brandon Plaatjies, Danzyl de Koe, Fiffy Kashululu and Ananias Ananias.
The event was initially supposed to take place in September, but the organisers believe that the postponement will grant participants a bit more time to enter for the various races and also more time to tighten up their preparations for the mega race.
