Participants welcome spring in style

The Nedbank Spring Festival, which was held at the Avis Dam, was a ball of entertainment as both cyclists and runners/walkers took part in the many activities offered.
A total of 669 participants took part in this year’s edition which was an increase from last year, when about 560 participants were involved. The contestants had the option to take part in several activities with a kids’ family and dog walk over 2km being one of the options.
Those interested in doing a trail run or walk could choose to do either a distance of 10km or 5km. (Namibian Sun’s Hector Mawonga took part in the 5km; read his account in tomorrow’s edition).
There was another option to do an Off Road Duathlon, which consisted of a 4.5km run, a 23km Mountain bike ride and another 5km run.
For those interested in only doing mountain biking, an option of doing the 23km lite or the 46km full ride was available. Several participants also won prizes through the raffle draw that had a total value of N$70 000. The N$70 000 was not won by a single individual, but was divided up into cash prizes, vouchers and various other goodie bags.
Chris Twine was the biggest winner of the day and took home N$10 000 in prize money.
Several sponsors linked up for the 2016 Nedbank Spring Festival, including Food Lovers Market, Windhoek Light and Cycletec.
This was the fourth year that Nedbank teamed up with Cycletec to bring the Windhoek community the Spring Festival.
The theme for this year’s Spring Festival was to ‘promote a healthy lifestyle’.
The Mammadù Children’s Shelter was also at the event selling crafts made by the mothers of the children who receive support from the shelter which is in Otjomuise.
