NSC preaches accountability
The Namibia Sports Commission speaks on implementation for the year ahead.
The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) says 2020 will be a year of accountability and activity implementation, with many events on the sporting calendar.
This was the message contained in statement availed to Nampa by the NSC, which mentions the 2020 Olympics, the 2020 Paralympics and the AUSC Region 5 Games in Lesotho.
“This calls for discipline, unwavering commitment and working together as sports leaders to enable our athletes to represent our nation with pride and patriotism,” the statement said.
It further called on federation executives to stop infighting, as this hampers the growth of sports.
The NSC has noted with concern that its affiliates have over the years operated from their own homes or had no space to operate from at all, the statement further read.
To mitigate this, the NSC has acquired space at the Katutura Youth Complex and NSC offices to house at least eight sporting codes.
“This will assist in capacity-building for our members, as the office space will enable them to have easy access to the masses and will help accelerate our efforts in professionalising sport,” it said.
The statement further revealed that the NSC will host the second edition of the National Youth Games in Swakopmund on a date to be communicated.
The commission further signed a memorandum of understanding with the amibia Students Financial Assistance Fund, which will see talented athletes, officials and employees getting study loans.
“This is the first time these two organisations unite to address the most pressing social and educational challenges of our era,” the statement said.
