Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) CEO Franz Gertze, who faces an attempted murder charge for allegedly shooting his wife six times, is now back at work, Namibian Sun has established.

On the evening of 16 November 2019, Gertze allegedly shot his wife Anittha with a 7.7mm rifle, in what she later described as a tussle for the firearm.

He was released on bail of N$5 000 last December.

NQA finally answers

Namibian Sun sent questions to the NQA months ago to enquire about Gertze's status at the parastatal.

Its spokesperson, Catherine Shipushu, after much dilly-dallying, confirmed on Friday that Gertze was back at work.

“Mr Franz Gertze is back at work from leave and has effectively resumed his role as the CEO of the NQA,” she said.

'Intruders'

Police last November said the motive for the shooting was unknown, “but according to the suspect, he heard intruders walking into his house and randomly opened fire in their common bedroom”. The house was, however, not broken into and the victim was with him, a police report circulated at the time said. The report also said Anittha was in the Roman Catholic Hospital, where the suspect allegedly transported her after the incident.

“A suicide note believed to be written by the suspect was found in the house. The firearm used belongs to the suspect and it has been recovered in his house. Another pistol was found in his car and was seized as well,” the police report at the time said.
