The MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) has slashed all staff members' salaries by 25%.
The move made by the league hierarchy is set to bring a relief to the league's already drained coffers.
Namibian Sun understands that league officials made a U-turn on their decision to sack public relations officer Andre Gariseb.
Gariseb had allegedly been discharged of his duties, with the league citing the inability to pay him.
The league however changed its mind on Gariseb's dismissal after one of their sponsors, FNB Namibia, came on board to fund some of the expenses during these difficult times.
NPL chairperson Patrick Kauta confirmed that Gariseb will keep his job – for now – and that the salaries have been cut.
“All NPL staff members' salaries have indeed been reduced with 25%. I can say that FNB came on board and Andre Gariseb will stay,” Kauta said.
Big bill
Sources claim the NPL chairperson was tasked to pay N$600 000 to the Court of Sport Arbitration in a bid to have the 2020 Namibia Football Association (NFA) congress nullified.
Kauta denied the allegations, adding that the source who shared the information does not have their facts right.
Young African saga
It is alleged that Kauta plans to auction demoted Young African because of personal issues.
“This is just because he has a personal thing with the owner of that club and also the name of that club because he wants the Herero-speaking community to support African Stars,” the source wrote.
The NPL chairperson denied these claims as well.
Presidency nomination
According to the source, Kauta was nominated by the Omaheke Region during the NFA presidential race, which is why the region and its officials back the chairperson's decisions.
Kauta did not deny support from Omaheke but made it clear that the region does not do him any favours as far as his NPL leadership is concerned.
The premier league has been inactive since the end of the 2018/19 season, with sponsors MTC announcing that they will withdraw their support.
