Nominees announced
Marathon superstar Helalia Johannes is the favourite to win big at this year's Namibia Annual Sports Awards.
The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) has announced the nominees for the 2019 Namibia Annual Sports Awards.
IAAF world championship bronze medallist Helalia Johannes is in the mix and is an obvious favourite to bag some big awards during the evening.
The awards will be held at the Ondangwa Trade and Exhibition Centre on 26 October.
Johannes is expected to scoop the MTC Sportswoman of the Year award after some superb performances. If she does so, it will be the third successive year she walks away with this laurel. She may also be in line to be named Sport Star of the Year, which will be decided by the judges and has no nominees.
Johannes clocked 2:34:15 recently to finish third at the IAAF world champs held in Doha.
She is nominated alongside karateka Suzelle Pronk and canoeist Maike Diekmann.
The MTC Sportsman of the Year award will be contested between boxer Nathaniel Kakololo, cricketer JJ Smit and archer Jannie Meuwesen.
Boxer Jonas Junias Jonas won this award last year.

MTC Namibia Junior Sportswoman of the Year - Requelle Rickerts (Namibia Karate Union), Corina Weimann (Namibia Ice and Inline Hockey Association) and Quinn Reddig (Archery Association of Namibia).
MTC Namibia Junior Sportsman of the Year - Ronan Wantenaar (Namibia Swimming Union), Delano Muller (Namibia Kickboxing Federation) and Christian Coetzee (Namibia Ice and Inline Hockey Association).
NamPower Sportsman of the Year with a Disability - Ananias Shikongo, Roodly Gowaseb and Johannes Nambala.
NamPower Sportswomen of the Year with a Disability - Sylvia Shivolo, Martha Hitekalute and Lahja Ishitile.
NamPower Junior Sportsman of the Year with a Disability - Immanuel Alfred, Bradley Delron, GG Murere and Christoph Marungu.
Namdia Coach of the Year - Nestor Tobias (professional boxing), Grant Douglas Dodds (canoeing and rowing) and Elifas Namundjebo (professional boxing).
Execuspecs Umpire/Referee of the Year - Vistoria Shangula (Namibia Football Association), Lars Dobberstein (Namibia Ice & Inline Hockey Association) and Fillemon Mweya (professional boxing).
Namibian Sports Journalist of the Year - Aili Iilonga (Informanté), Jesse Jackson Kauraisa (Namibian Sun) and Sheefeni Nikodemus (The Namibian).
Tafel Lager Sports Team of the Year - beach volleyball team, inline hockey junior men's team and Namibia Amateur Golf Union.
Standard Bank Namibia Development Programme of the Year - African Cup Inline Hockey Tournament, Basketball Artists School, Namibia Junior Golf Foundation and an amateur wrestling project.
