His recent Kasi Vibe performance impressed a lot of concertgoers and his current single, Ano Oye, keeps gaining momentum. Hailing all the way from Uunkete village in the north, kwaito artist Manxebe has a refreshing sound.

In an interview with tjil, the rookie mentioned that he considers 2020 as the year of his official introduction to the music scene, even though he has been recording music for years. “I recorded my first song when I was in Grade 9 and in 2017, I used to serve as a back-up dancer and singer for Sunny Boy,” he said.

Manxebe shared that he is happy with how his current single is doing and promised to share more music as soon as the video hits 100 000 views on YouTube. Ano Oye has been out for about three weeks and by the time of going to print, the video had racked up 77 785 views.

“There are requests from fans for me to put out more music but I am working on establishing a strong fan base first.

“I have been in studio recording but I am not in rush to release an album. More people still need to know about me and my music. An album will come when the time is right,” promised Manxebe.

As an independent artist, he said signing to a record label is another thing he is not in a rush for.

He understands how important a strong support structure is in the music business, but is also aware of record labels that exploit artists and their talent. “Record labels will come with promises, but for me to be convinced, the terms and conditions have to be right and the label needs to deliver what they promise to do first”.

He added that he is grateful to have a big name such as Top Cheri root for his music. “It is affirmation for me that I am on the right track.”

Another element of his artistry he is confident he is doing right is his stage presence. On this, the kwaito artist confidently said he delivers electrifying performances and urges fans to go out and support him when he is booked for shows.

“When more event organisers get to know Manxebe, they will never leave me out of their line-ups because they know they are hiring the right person to entertain their audience. I enjoy performing and I can confidently say all my performances are lit because when I am on stage, I am doing what I love the most,' he said.
