New boards for finance entities

The ministry of finance has announced boards of directors for the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN), Namibia National Reinsurance Corporation (NamibRe) and the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (Namfisa).

The ministry of finance has announced boards of directors for the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN), Namibia National Reinsurance Corporation (NamibRe) and the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (Namfisa).

The board of the DBN will be led by former commercial banker Sarel Van Zyl as chairperson, deputised by Evangelina Nailenge, Patience Kanalelo, Marsory Ickua, Diana Husselman and Willy Mertens.

The DBN is mandated to provide financing for viable enterprises and sustainable initiatives that contribute to the development of Namibia. DBN’s loan facilities help businesses to start or expand their existing business operations.

The Namfisa board will be led by Hettie Gerbers-Kirsten, deputised by Steve Katjiuanjo, Jauque Jansen, Namene Kalili, Selma Ambuda and Ndateelela Shilongo.

Namfisa is an independent institution established by an Act of parliament to regulate and supervise financial institutions in the financial services industry in the public interest, and fully funded by levies imposed on this industry.

Faniel Kisting will be leading the board of directors for Namibre, with Beata Muteka as deputy and Slysken Makando, Rauna Hanghuwo, Lelly Usiko, Akutu Muyika and Christel Roots as additional members.

NamibRe is a state-owned corporation which was established by an Act of parliament to provide reinsurance services and to minimise the placement of insurance and reinsurance business outside the borders of Namibia.

These boards will serve a term of three years, effective 1 September 2021 until 31 August 2024.
