Nesa announces online tournament
With the outbreak of the coronavirus, electronic sport has become even more popular with those in love with games.

WINDHOEK
The Namibian Electronic Sports Association (Nesa) has revealed that it will stage a national tournament this month.
The association will soon launch the Defence of the Ancients 2 (DotA2) competition, slated for 7 June.
Given the current global climate regarding the coronavirus pandemic, competitors will challenge each other from their respective homes and will not gather at one place to compete.
Salomé de Bruyn of Nesa said the association welcomes everyone interested in the competition.

“We invite players and teams who would like to participate in this year's tournament from the comfort of their own homes and encourage people to keep fighting the fight through social distancing,” she said.
Registration is available on the Nesa website, esportsnamibia.org, and will close today at 17:00.
Teams interested to participate are requested to ensure that all team members are registered and paid for.
“Entry fees are charged at N$50 for fully registered and paid Nesa members, and N$100 for non-members.
“The Nesa membership fee is N$250 per annum and registrations can be done on the Nesa website.
On the line
Cash prizes will be up for grabs, while Namibian players will be evaluated for possible selection for the Namibian Esports Team.
“Players should note that only Namibians who are Nesa members will be eligible for National Esports Team selections,” De Bruyn said.
She however added that non-Namibians are welcome to apply for membership.
Gamers' growth
Nesa has made efforts to secure opportunities for Namibian e-sports athletes to compete internationally and develop professional gaming within the country, she added.
Last year, Nesa sent gamers to participate at the IESF E-Sports World Championship.
The association has been sending gamers to championships of this nature since 2017.
“This year's IESF E-Sports World Championship will be taking place in Eilat, Israel, from 15 to 20 November.
“Additional international online matches will also be arranged for the Namibian e-sports team to hone their skills,” she said.
