NamPower probes power outage
Power utility, NamPower, has a released a statement regarding the power failure experienced across the country on Friday evening. "NamPower wishes to inform the public that it experienced a power outage at 21:04 on Friday (22 July 2016), which affected the central, central northern and western areas of the country," said the statement.
"The Auas/Kokerboom 400kV line, one of the major transmission lines that feeds power to the central parts of Namibia tripped. The areas south of Mariental, including the Skorpion Zinc mine were not affected by the outage. The northern areas including the Zambezi Region, Otjiwarongo and surrounding areas and Outjo were also not affected by the outage as they are being fed by a separate DC link from the Zambezi Substation outside Katima Mulilo to GerusSub Station outside Otjiwarongo." Power supply to the affected areas was restored in phases, with the central regions which include Windhoek being the first to be re-energised at 22:52. The cause of the outage is not yet determined and is being investigated. NamPower apologises to its customers and the public in general.
