Namibian trucks are being hijacked more often, warns Windhoek crime fighter Sean Naude.

He works for a base control information centre in Windhoek that keeps all road users informed on current affairs and they are also involved with long-distance transportation into and out of Namibia, South Africa and Botswana.

This follows the hijacking of a Namibian truck driver in South Africa a week ago.

According to Naude, the driver from FP Transport was travelling with a load of tyres when he was stopped by armed men at an intersection. He was pulled out of the truck and the robbers drove away with the truck.

Naude says the suspects tried to remove all the tracking devices in the truck, but they failed to remove one. The truck was traced and at least six suspects were caught red-handed.

These suspects apparently included members of the South African police.

“It is getting dangerous as more and more hijackings are Namibian trucks,” said Naude.

The truck, the load of tyres and the driver returned safely to Namibia.
