After years of honing his skills, upcoming kwaito artist Markes Haufiku has earned a spot under tjil's spotlight.
Ondangwa-born Haufiku has been among the crop of new artists at the frontline of kwaito in the north, taking the genre to new heights with his unique artistry.
In an interview with tjil, Haufiku shared that he started making music in 2015.
“I was 15 years old and I was inspired to venture into music by Exit, Mushe and Tate Buti.”
Inspiration
He looks up to these artists as he believes they created room for a lot of new artists who are either popping now or bubbling under, he said.
Not only does he give credit to Exit and Mushe for paving the way, the musician said he genuinely loves their style of music.
“Internationally, I look up to South Africa's Emtee and America's Lil Wayne and Young Thug,” Haufiku added.
While he predominantly makes kwaito music, he said he has the ability and skill to jump onto any genre or beat.
More work in the pipeline
With three tracks out so far, Andi Zula, Toti Ngeipi and Ongalamweno, the artist revealed he's dropping a new single today, titled Levels.
“These exclude the features I've done with other Namibian artists,” he said.
He also announced that he is currently working with Racio Media to shoot two music videos, which will soon premiere on YouTube.
On top of that, he revealed he is in the process of wrapping up his debut album, with plans to release it in September.
“I am grateful to radio stations such as Shipi FM, Omulunga Radio and NBC Oshiwambo for having playlisted my songs on their respective platforms.
“Very soon you will see what I deem classic music videos from me. Let us hope the coronavirus [outbreak] ends soon because I would like to announce my album promotion tour,” he said, urging fans to follow him on social media.
