NAMAs: Oteya, Mushe nominated as artist of the decade

A media statement shared by the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) this evening revealed that Oteya and Mushe have now joined King Tee Dee, Lize Ehlers, Exit, Gazza and Blossom as nominees in the Artist of the Decade category. Their inclusion has brought the total number of nominees in the category to seven.
The press release further noted that the decision was made after the vetting committee realised that a solo artist who was previously part of a group and won awards as part of the group deserves credit for such awards.
“We received a query in this regard and consulted internationally for guidance and the advice was that all awards, whether won in the name of the group or solo artist, should be credited to the person’s name, and thus the additions. The rule is consistent with what happens at the Grammy where Beyonce's total awards won over the years includes that which she won under Destiny's Child, for instance. We would like to thank the vetting committee for their diligence and professionalism in this regard,” said NAMAs executive chairperson, Tim Ekandjo.
In the dark
Mushe said he was not aware of being nominated. “I am only finding out about this now, so I can’t comment on something I wasn't told officially,” he told tjil.
Attempts to contact Oteya went unanswered.
