Nakathila unfazed by new opponent
A last minute change will see Namibian boxer Jeremiah 'Low Key' Nakathila defending his title against Anthony Moloisane of South Africa on 28 March.
The WBO Global junior lightweight title holder Jeremiah 'Lowkey' Nakathila will now have to prepare at short notice for a new opponent in the form of the South African Anthony Moloisane.
The fight will headline the 30th Independence boxing event themed 'Undefeated @30 Namibia', coinciding with Nakathila's age. The Namibian was previously scheduled to fight Rofhiwe Maemu from South Africa, but he allegedly sustained an injury last week after being involved in a car accident.
Nakathila will make his eighth title defense and will be looking forward to keeping his record of 19 fights, one loss and zero draws intact. His last fight was last November against Zimbabwe's Peter Pambeni, whom he beat via technical knockout in the eighth round of the 'Champions in Action' boxing bonanza held at the Windhoek Country Club.
His opponent, the 28-year old Moloisane, has a total of 19 fights, five losses and one draw. He last fought in December against fellow countryman Tello Dithebe. He ended up winning the fight on points.
Now ranked second by the WBO, a win against the South African will ensure Nakathila becomes the mandatory challenger for the WBO junior lightweight world title currently held by Jamel Herring from the USA.
“We have celebrated Namibia's independence for the last 15 years and we are proud to continue with this tradition, uniting our nation through boxing,” said promoter Nestor Tobias.
Nakathila remains unfazed by the change in opponent and said: “It's a pity I couldn't fight Maemu, who I was preparing for. I will need to adjust a few things because I will now be facing a southpaw but I'm a professional and will make the necessary adjustments to win this fight.
“I treat every opponent with respect and my aim is to continue winning because there is so much at stake to fight for the world title”.
The fight will take place at the Windhoek Country Club and general tickets will sell for N$200 via Webtickets and N$250 at the door, while VIP tables sell for N$10 000.
