Mweya looks forward to virtual convention

World Boxing Council (WBC) certified referee and judge Fillemon Mweya's dream of travelling to the 58th WBC Convention did not materialise.
However, he is looking forward to the substitute, a virtual convention, which will take place from 12 to 15 August, he said.
Mweya, who holds two boxing diplomas through the Mexican-based WBC and another from Ukraine, was supposed to attend the WBC Convention in Russia, but could not because of the coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent regulations and travel bans.
Innovative and unforgettable event
“I'm very disappointed as Covid-19 has really affected our activities in all corners of sports.
My sponsors were on board to support my travel to Russia, but there is nothing we can do about it now.
“The convention will be done virtually.
“I'm done with my registration and I will be part of this innovative and unforgettable event that we are convinced will make history,” he said.
“The WBC team is stronger together and there is no adversity that can separate our great family as we capable of overcoming any border, boundary or frontier,” Mweya added.
About the convention
The convention will have a spectacular agenda which includes various presentations, looking at world rankings, reviews on the status of the mandatory defenses of each division, seminars for ring officials and meetings of all committees, plus special awards, among other things.
“We will also have an important social agenda that will include the famous ballet, walks around the city and a big boxing card to close the activities,” Mweya narrated.
