Mweshipandeka closed because of Covid-19 case
A high school in the Oshana Region has been closed after a student tested positive for the coronavirus.

The directorate of education for the Oshana Region has suspended face-to-face teaching at Mweshipandeka High School after one of the learners tested positive for Covid-19.
Teachers will remain on duty, hostel learners will remain in the hostel, while non-boarding learners will stay at home.
The regional education director, Hileni Amukana, made the announcement yesterday.
Travelled from Walvis
The directorate reported that a 20-year-old male learner at the school had travelled from Walvis Bay, where he had stayed with his father, to Oshana on 5 June. “He reported to the school for the resumption of face-to-face classes and was sent back home, reported to the health authorities and was later put in quarantine at the Rural Development Centre (RDC) at Ongwediva.
“He was monitored for signs and symptoms of Covid-19 during his stay in quarantine of more than 14 days and never developed Covid-19 related signs and symptoms,” said the report.
It added that a nasal swab was taken on 22 June and the results came back positive on 29 June.
“He is still in the quarantine facility and waiting to be transferred to the isolation unit of Intermediate Hospital Oshakati.”
Classes suspended
Amukana said face-to-face sessions at the school have been suspended and all hostel learners will stay in the hostel until they get their test results.
“Teachers will be on duty preparing and distributing learning materials to learners in hostel and day learners who will be at their houses. Cleaning and disinfection of the entire school will take place,” said Amukana.
“The regional taskforce on Covid-19 is in control of the situation by providing psycho-social support and advising the directorate on case management.”
Amukana said she would issue further instructions on Monday.
