Motivational rap for the streets

Okay, so this album’s not technically new; it’s a few weeks old. But it’s possible for us to miss a beat (hey, even Superman has kryptonite, right?)
The important thing is ‘Esimbi II – Reflections’ by Don Jeezy is a solid body of work and if you haven’t given it a listen yet, we are here to encourage you to change your ways, and help you accept the gospel of Don Jeezy into your life.
The lyrics on the album are mainly filled with messages of hope and gratitude, and this is the most impressive feat about ‘Esimbi II – Reflections’.
There is still room for improvement on an artistry level, but with some guidance, Don Jeezy could one day be the Don of motivational rap in Namibia.
No one ever loses from constantly seeking to improve their delivery. There are some obvious areas where his music could do with some tweaking; he could benefit from some vocal and delivery coaching, for instance.
Released under his own imprint Esimbi Records, the project boasts 10 tracks with features by Muno, Teqla, Western, House Guru Gang, Kachazi, Sindy Kay and Nasho.
My personal favourite song on this project is titled ‘Mom and Dad’ and features Teqla and Western.
I love the message it carries and the arrangement, while the writing on it is impeccable. Teqla can be heard singing in Rukwangali, something that was clearly written for her, but the way she owns it and makes it sound like she can indeed speak the language gives her major points and we all know her voice is unmatched.
Other single-worthy tracks include ‘Penge’, ‘Eharo’ and ‘I Miss You’. If complemented with visuals, these songs could extend the album’s lifespan.
‘Esimbi II – Reflections’ is available on all major streaming platforms and via 081 447 1870.
Rating: 2.5/5
