Moolman clinches karate world title
Local participant De Wet Moolman walked away with a world title from the 2016 JSKA World Karate Championships held in Swakopmund at the weekend.
Moolman clinched three single kumitso gold medals to scoop the world title, but the results from the competition will only be available in a month’s time.
“Results have to be double-checked and signed off on before they can be released to the public,” read a statement send to the media.
The Namibia Shotokan Karate Academy had more than 100 participants in the championships. Many local participants in the past had been unable to attend such an event because of financial and time constraints.
More than 300 participants from 14 countries participated in the event, making it the biggest JSKA World Karate Championships ever held. In 2014 Namibia boasted seven new world champions from the championships in Italy, beating many world-class teams and enabling them to obtain the second place overall in terms of the number of medals won by a country.
