Mboma steals the show

Christine Mboma was the overall winner at Saturday’s Namibia Annual Sports Awards held at Safari Hotel in Windhoek.

LIMBA MUPETAMI – Namibian teenage sensation Christine Mboma scored a hat-trick on Saturday, scooping the MTC Namibia annual sports star of the year award, beating fellow sprinter Beatrice Masilingi and marathon runner Helalia Johannes.

Mboma also took the MTC-NASA sportswoman of the year award as well as the MTC-NASA junior sportswoman of the year award.

Other winners of the night were as follows:

MTC-NASA sportsman of the year: boxer Jonas Junias.

MTC-NASA junior sportsman of the year: Magano Naseb (athletics).

NamPower-NASA sportsman of the year with a disability: Johannes Nambala.

NamPower-NASA sportswoman of the year with a disability: Lahja Ishitile.

NamPower-NASA junior sportsman of the year with a disability: Bradley Murere.

NamPower NASA junior sportswoman of the year with a disability: Lahja Iipinge.

DebMarine NASA professional shining star in the diaspora: Peter Shalulile (Namibia Football Association).

DebMarine Namibia NASA sports team of the year: senior women’s hockey team.

NASA coach of the year: Hendrick Botha (Athletics Namibia).

DebMarine Namibia NASA umpire/referee of the year: Twanyanyukwa Antsino (Namibia Football Association).

NEPC-NASA journalists of the year: broadcasting (radio & TV) and digital (online, social & photography) - Limba Mupetami (Namibian Sun); Print (newspapers/magazines) - Hesron Kapanga (Namibia Press Agency).

Standard Bank-NASA sports development programme of the year: Standard Bank junior hockey initiative (Namibia Hockey Union).

NSC-NASA federation of the year: Cricket Namibia.

Standard Bank /DebMarine NASA community inspiration award: Delano Muller (Namibia Kickboxing Federation).

Chairperson’s Award of Excellence: Erwin Handura (Namibia Hockey Union).

NSC NASA Lifetime achievement awards: John Lifasi Njubei, Charles Nyambe, Beata Naigambo and Harry ‘The Terminator’ Simon.

People’s choice sports star of the year: Pomwene Shaduka (Dream Publication).
