Brave Warriors goalkeeper Maximilian Mbaeva says he is eager to help the national team qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mbaeva said he hopes he can bring on the form of his life in order to help the nation qualify for the tournament.

Namibia begins its hunt for qualification when it hosts Zambia on 7 September.

They will then play Mozambique on 10 and 13 October and finish off the year with a date at home against Guinea-Bissau on 16 November 2018.

“My biggest hope this year is to be solid enough to help the national team qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.

“I know the nation has been thirsty for this and we really have to do it this time around.

“I believe that we have a very good team capable of going all the way in this round of qualification,” Mbaeva said.

Namibia last qualified to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2008.

Mbaeva also set his sights on helping his club Golden Arrows finish top of the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The goalkeeper admitted that he had some shaky moments at the goalpost during some of the matches played but is willing to tighten his gloves.

“As goalkeepers we endure so much pressure especially when the team is under pressure.

“But it is our duty to ensure that nothing gets past us throughout the game which is sometimes impossible.

“I will however do my best this upcoming season to make sure that I do not concede silly goals at club and international level.”

Mbaeva is not part of the 29-man squad called by Riccardo Mannetti due to club commitments but he is hopeful to make the squad before the qualifiers begin.
