'Low-Key' faces serious title tussle

World Boxing Organisation (WBO) global junior lightweight champion Jeremiah 'Low-Key' Nakathila will take on Zimbabwe's Peter Pambeni on 23 November in Windhoek.

Nakathila, who is ranked third by the World Boxing Organisation (WBO), will defend the title he won when he defeated Hungary's Zoltan Kovacs in April this year.

Nakathila is also the WBO Africa junior lightweight champion and has successfully defended this title six times.

He was tipped to get a mandatory shot at the world title after his fight against the Hungarian. This, however, did not materialise.

America's Lamont Roach Jr and Jamel Herring will contest for the WBO super featherweight world title on 9 November.

Nakathila wished Roach Jr all the best and further extended an invite to local boxing fans to turn up in their numbers to witness what he called “the real deal”.

His promoter Nestor Tobias predicted a tough challenge for Nakathila.

“This will be another tough fight for Nakathila, but we have confidence in his ability to show the world why he is amongst the best of the best in this division.

“He just came off a major victory against Kovacs and now he takes on another WBO title holder, which proves that we are serious about the quality of opponents we select to prove his worth,” said Tobias from the MTC Nestor Tobias Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy.

Nakathila has a boxing record of 19 fights with only one loss.

Pambeni clinched the WBO Africa lightweight title after defeating Namibia's Albinius 'Danny Boy' Felesianu on points at the Ramatex complex in the Clash of the Titans main event hosted by the MTC Salute Boxing Academy in August.

Pambeni has never lost against a Namibian opponent and will be looking to keep a clean sheet when he faces the in-form Nakathila.

Pambeni, who is nicknamed 'Sniper', has a record of 23 fights, 17 wins, three losses and three draws, and has not lost in his last 10 fights.

A win will put tremendous pressure on the WBO to give Nakathila a world title shot after this fight, the same title shot his opponent is also seeking, who is ranked 15th by the WBO. The undercard will be announced in due course.

VIP tables are selling for N$10 000, while standard tickets cost N$200.
