Earlier this year, Danie Joubert Combined School participated in the Little Shop of Physics Super Science Day. This day was sponsored by B2Gold Namibia in partnership with Colorado State University.

The teachers performing the experiments were Miss Maasdorp, Miss Shehama, Miss Titus, Miss Von Francois and Mr Titus, who was the organiser of the event.

The aim of the event was to expose the learners and staff of Danie Joubert Combined School to various experiments carried out at different stations, in the form of an expo.

This day aimed to present learning science concepts in a fun and interesting way and allow learners and teachers to experience science through doing experiments themselves.

The learners enjoyed the experience and exposure to the activities of the day. Their faces showed they were having fun and the types of questions they asked showed that they were learning.

For some learners and teachers, it was the first time they saw some of the experiments and the learners didn’t want to move to the next station and demanded more time.

Teachers and learners were amazed by the fun experiments and how textbook science came to life.

The different types of experimentation included experiments on energy with focus on kinetic energy and solar energy. Sound waves and light waves, Tesla coil experiments in wireless technology, electricity and lasers and refraction and reflection of light were among the other experiments.

The main attraction of the day was a rocket launch.

“Science is not only a theoretical or textbook subject and experiments form a crucial part of the learning process in science subjects. Learning is more concrete and in real time. An experiment brings the facts in textbook to life. It also sparks the young minds for innovation and science skills development,” Mr Titus said.
