The foundation of every state is the education of its youth. Little Berries is a Montessori school, a system of education for young children (starting from 6 months) that seeks to develop natural interests and activities rather than use formal teaching methods. such as self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Little Berries classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the highly trained teacher guide the process. It provides day-care services for children as young as 6 months. It also provides kindergarten or early education to the toddlers as well as pre-primary school foundation education.
Little Berries aims to educate the body, the mind and the soul of the young children. “It has a ‘catch them young’ approach, where basic life skills are taught at an early stage in life. The children are trained early on aspects like respect and sharing,” says the founder, Irina J Ngando. Its concept is far from basic day care and kindergarten. It provides nutritious foods and engages the children according to their age groups. It has state-of-the-art materials and furniture needed for the development of children. It is also safe house for the children. Little Berries also provides extracurricular activities Like swimming, karate classes, piano classes and yoga classes.
Established by Irina J Ngando in the year 2020. The Zone asked Ngando what inspired Little Berries.
“The inspiration was drawn from my love for kids. I have my own two boys and they always drive me to think big for other children. They are always learning and this inspired me to provide a platform where my kids and a lot of other kids could learn something new every day.”
Little Berries currently has about 4 employees. As highlighted before, this school is different. It has a very reasonable teacher-child ratio, meaning that all the children get attention from the teachers. Food is provided for and transport arrangements can be made. This is a genuine development school for the kids and remember the foundation is always the best.
The Zone asked Ngando what the challenges and advantages of establishing Little Berries have been and she said: “The biggest challenge was finding an appropriate place. The initial place I found kicked us out for their own personal reasons. Thank God we managed to secure a beautiful and secure place in 2022 at 8 Galen Street, Windhoek West. The advantages are that I have seen children improve in a lot of their abilities and that makes me smile. I have witnessed giggles and laughter from children that showed me that they are happy to be at the school. We have managed to secure a lot of world-class equipment and books for the school and that is a great achievement. The Montessori school will officially open on 11 January 2022 at the new location. Little Berries operating hours are from 06:45 to 17:30. The payment per month for Half day is N$2 500, payment for full day is N$3 000.
