Lady spinsters
Local chicks show that they can burn rubber as well as the next (wo)man.
The Women Rock Spin Show, held on the weekend, rocked Windhoek Spin City and sent it up in smoke. The show empowered women in the sport of spinning, to show that women can part take in this male-dominated, testosterone-laden industry.
First local women spinner Evanka, aka Vakies, 19 years of age from Rehoboth wowed the crowd. Vankies has had a passion for spinning from when she was very young. She says she grew up changing tyres and oil with her father and this is what motivated her. She officially started spinning some three weeks ago when her cousin introduced her to Emmanual Driver, her teacher and coach, who by the way is also known as one of Windhoek’s superb spinners. Vakies says she feels good to be the first lady spinner and would like to thank the Windhoek Spin City staff for granting her the opportunity to show off her skills.
International woman spinner Kylin, 16, who hails from Kimberly in South Africa’s Northern Cape, made second appearance in Namibia to inspire females to join the sport. “It is utterly amazing for me to be here on my second time, I love this vibe and everyone is so friendly,” said Kylin. She extended her thanks for all the support she has received, both here and at home and says she hopes to see more women in the game.
The day was all about women as lady DJs featured, providing top-class entertainment for the show. DJ Alba,DJ Maggs, DJ Kiki, DJ Roxy and DJ Seboa entertained the drivers and crowd. Spinning teams showed off their monster rides and mad-ass skills. Yes, a smoked-up preparation day for all spinning teams was had and they were all preparing for the next big event… King of Spins 2017.
