Kwaito meets jazz
Suzy Eises’ sax on Gazza’s new jam
" I think it’s great that we can bring two different genres together. Even better is that we can bring two different worlds together, and I love that about music. The way I see it, music knows no discrimination, race, gender or hate.” That is how saxophonist Suzy Eises describes her and renowned Kwaito artist Gazza’s fusion.
After a spontaneous introduction, Gazza asked Suzy to join him in the studio, as he had envisioned featuring her saxophone on a track. The upbeat ‘Get it On’ is all about having a good time with the people you love, and the recording process stayed true to the theme. “We had a great time in studio celebrating this song and what it’s about to become,” Suzy explained.
The song will be released later this year on Gazza’s upcoming album ‘Pumumu’. Pumumu is the first Namibian album that will be distributed by Universal. “I have used instrumentalists before in my music and wanted to bring Suzy on-board because I wanted to merge the instrumental touch with electronic music,” Gazza says. Suzy’s fans are already responding well to a sneak peak of the song on her Instagram and Facebook pages. Gazza has also posted their studio session on his Snap Chat account and he sounded very excited.
Because of the artists’ great chemistry, Suzy plans to work with Gazza again in the near future. As for working on other tracks, Suzy enjoys the challenge of stepping outside of the typical jazz genre and has also worked with popular duo Cool Under Pressure on a track called ‘Atata’ which can be heard on YouTube.
