Killer weekend

Several inquests have been opened into possible suicides over the past week, including an incident in which a 75-year-old man is believed to have shot himself with a hunting rifle at cattle post at a village near Opuwo in the Kunene Region.

On Friday, A 17-year-old girl identified as Maria Josua was found dead, hanging from a tree with a wire around her neck, at Outapi.

According to the crime report issued by the Namibian Police public relations department, Williams Gertze (41) was found hanging from a burglar door of the Otjimbingwe police holding cells, with his trousers around his neck.

He had been arrested for breaching a protection order related to gender-based violence.

At Warmbad in the //Karas Region, another 41-year old man was found dead, hanging from an electrical cord in a room.

Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon, the body of a man was found hanging from a tree at Kamanjab.

The police also opened an inquest into the death of 25-year-old Martin Haingura whose body was found lying under a tree. His body was reportedly found by a farm owner.

The police at Rehoboth are investigating the rape of a 29-year-old woman.

It is alleged that the suspect took her from her house in Block-G and raped her in the town’s Block -D residential area.

Police investigations into these matters continue.
