Key en route to Miss Global

June Shimuoshili
Who is Key Haikola?
I am 22 and currently working as a substitute teacher at Rocky Crest High School. I grew up in the village called Oluwaya in Okongo constituency. I am a Unam graduate, with an honours degree in natural science, environmental biology and geography. My goal is to promote social awareness to help uplift poor societal conditions, to empower woman globally and become a Good Samaritan to people living in and under unfortunate conditions.
When did you start modeling?
I started modeling in 2002 at the age of nine. After I took second place in a competition, I never stopped. I am loving it and I have faith that someday I will be a supermodel. I have done few fashion shows such as the Afro-Cat Fashion Show in 2013 and the Unam Exhibition Fashion Show 2015.
What is the Miss Global pageant all about?
The Miss Global 2016 pageant will be hosted in the Philippines from 10 to 25 September this year. Thirty to 60 contestants, selected from all over the world, will compete for the title of Miss Global 2016. The goal of the Miss Global pageant is to showcase a diverse selection of qualified female participants in a world-class production that will represent their culture, intelligence, and beauty. Miss Global is about empowering women, embracing cultures, and to help each woman to embody their beauty within.

Why did you opt to enter Miss Global?

After finishing school, I decided to pursue my modeling career, so the first thing I did was search on the net and I found the Miss Global Foundation. I then applied and went through an interview. They reviewed my response to their prescreening questions and they sent me an official invitation based on my exceptional application and my high potential to do well. I was so excited, I still am, and more so at the fact that I am the only delegate representing Namibia.

What does it mean for you?

Being Miss Global Namibia 2016 is such an honour and a serious responsibility as well. I still can’t believe it and I thank God every day for such a big opportunity. It means being an ambassador for our country. It means being a representative of Namibia itself. I am so proud and honoured to fly the Namibian flag so high.
How will you get there?
I am looking for sponsorships that will cover air fares, participation fees and garments. My sponsors will get stage exposure, their names will be announced on stage during my introduction and there will be print exposure. The sponsor will also get website exposure for a year on www.missglobal.com with a company link and company logo featured on the contestant’s profile page and so much more. Sponsors can contact me at [email protected] or call me at 081 636 0045. On social media I can be found on Instagram at keyhaikola and on Facebook as Key Haikola.
What advice do you have for girls who want to model?
Young girls must take care of themselves, stay focused and finish their education first. Nobody must tell them that they won’t make it. Pray, have faith and work hard.
