Karibib Private School has seen a flurry of activities over the past few weeks.

Five learners from the school participated in the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) computer programming competition.

These learners were Uetesavi Katjangua, Culenda Leonildo, Erich Thompson, Mbino Kazavanga, Joel Conceicao, Shirley Mziray, Kae Hoveka, Antonio Manuel, Joaquim Paulo and Shirlene Mziray.

The first five learners made up group two and ended fifth in the competition.

The remainder of the learners were in group four and ended fourth out of 13 schools who participated in the competition. What an achievement!

Seven of the Karibib Private School learners also took part in the German foreign language competition, hosted annually by the Goethe Centre. Amani Enkara, a grade 8 learner, finished third, while Ruth Manyanga (grade 11) and Dellya Bakalag (grade 10) ended in sixth place.

Karibib Private School also participated in Namibia Heritage Week, organised by the Karibib town council in collaboration with the Museums Association of Namibia (MAN) at the Usab community hall.

The theme of this year’s event was ‘Follow the Namibia Beat’.

Five groups of learners participated in the cultural exhibition and scooped the first and second prizes. The event showcased various cultural dances and traditional food.

The school also said farewell to the class of 2019. This year’s grade 12s consists of 29 students and during the valedictory ceremony the learners were awarded certificates of excellence, merit certificates and notable improvement awards for improving by 10% or more.

George Botshiwe, the managing director of QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine at Karibib, delivered the keynote address and imparted knowledge and words of wisdom to the learners.

Kihonda Lussevikueno, a former student, came all the way from Angola to inspire and motivate the learners.

Two learners who received scholarships from the school delivered very moving appreciative speeches. One of the recipients Roswitha Kamahya related how she comes from a less privileged background, and among all her siblings, she has the opportunity to finish school.

Hazel Munjanu also expressed her deep appreciation to be afforded the opportunity to study at Karibib Private School.

She delivered a deeply emotional speech and thanked all her teachers, the headmaster and the greater Karibib Private School community for their support throughout the years.

The highlight of the day was the announcement of the Dux learner 2019, with Mziray scooping the award.

Her average in all her subjects from April until August 2019 was 81.6%. She received a trophy and N$500.
