Kaperu acts as NQA CEO

The Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) has appointed Asnath Kaperu as its acting CEO.

Her appointment comes after NQA CEO Franz Gertze's arrest for allegedly shooting his wife Anittha several times with a hunting rifle.

He is in custody after being denied bail, while his wife, who was shot in the lower body, is recovering.

“The NQA would like to announce the appointment of Ms Asnath Kaperu as its acting CEO, effective 21 November 2019. Kaperu is currently the authority's deputy CEO.

The NQA also hereby assures its clients and stakeholders that modalities have been put in place to ensure the authority continues to operate efficiently,” NQA spokesperson Catherine Shipushu said in a statement.

The NQA would not be drawn into saying anything about Gertze's future, adding the matter was sub judice.

The 55-year-old executive was arrested recently for allegedly shooting his 29-year-old wife, with whom he has two young children.

Besides his job at the NQA, where he has led with distinction over many years, Gertze is also an avid farmer, who often posts pictures of his livestock on social media.

He is facing a charge of attempted murder or alternatively a charge of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. Gertze's case has been postponed until 20 February 2020.
