Kakololo gets WBC title shot
MTC Salute Boxing Academy has kicked 2020 off in style with a featherweight title fight and a boxing bonanza.
MTC Salute Boxing Academy's Nathaniel Kakololo has promised to bring the World Boxing Council (WBC) silver featherweight title home.
The Namibian will face South Africa's Lerato Dlamini in the Eastern Cape on 18 March.
Dlamini is the current WBC silver featherweight champion and will be eager to defend his title in his backyard. Kakololo is however adamant that he will dethrone the South African in what is expected to be a fierce battle between two talented boxers.
“I am grateful to MTC, Salute Boxing Academy and John Mbenge for making this fight possible.
“My promise to the fans is that I will bring the title home because I have been preparing for such a fight since January.
“I will control Lerato as if he was being controlled by a remote during this fight,” Kakololo said.
Kakololo boasts a record of nine wins, one defeat and one draw in his professional career.
The boxer will head into the fight oozing confidence after he defeated South Africa's Jeff Magagane in an Africa Boxing Union featherweight title in December.
The 2019 sportsman of the year nominee began his professional career in 2014.
He however faces a titanic task given that he will be up against one of South Africa's top featherweight boxers.
Dlamini is no walk in the park – he has won 13 professional fights, with only one defeat to his name.
The South African claimed the vacant WBC silver featherweight title in 2019 after beating Dave Penalosa of the Philippines by unanimous decision.
Salute Academy's spokesperson Armas Shivute is confident that Kakololo will win the fight.
“We are aware that Dlamini is a talented boxer but our boxer will be equal to the task on the day of the fight.
“Kakololo is a talented boxer who has the potential to become a world champion.”
Ndafoluma's bout
Namibia's middleweight boxer Lukas 'The Demolisher' Ndafoluma will headline MTC Salute Boxing Academy's next bonanza slated for 11 April.
He will come up against Meshack Mwankemwa of Tanzania for the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa middleweight title at the Windhoek Country Club.
The bonanza will feature 10 bouts featuring some of Namibia's upcoming boxers.
“I am ready because this is my time to shine and I am going to win this fight in style,” Ndafoluma said.
MTC's public relation officer Erasmus Nekundi lauded Salute Boxing Academy for organising fights early in the year.
“We are happy that Salute started the year on a good note. For us, it shows that the academy is committed and dedicated towards fulfilling its mandate.
“It is an opportunity for Kakololo to put Namibia and MTC on the map,” he said.
