Maximilian Mbaeva was nowhere to be seen for the major part of the season but still, the team has always been keen to keep the goalkeeper in their setup.
Mbaeva has been part of Arrows ever since making his debut for the club on 23 August 2014.
During the 2020-21 season, Mbaeva was for the first time seen on the bench in their second-last match against Kaizer Chiefs.
The player, who is currently on holiday, says he has managed to keep his name in the line-up because of the of the way he motivates and encourages younger teammates at Arrows.
Last season, many speculated that the former African Stars and Brave Warriors number one could be on his way out of Arrows after dropping down the pecking order of players in the squad.
But it appears as if Mbaeva has secured himself another season after the club decided to pay for his return ticket to South Africa.
“It is still early to talk about the future but I am happy that I am still in the books of the club even when I did not have much playing time last season.
“I feel I kept my name in the team because of the work that I do in training, especially when motivating and encouraging the players to do better,” Mbaeva said.
Aim to work hard
Like any other footballer, the player continues to aspire to make the first team next season.
He hopes to work harder on the training ground in order to get a place in the first squad.
“When the club still has faith in you, it is important that you repay them with working hard.
“I want to go back to South Africa a motivated man who is ready to work harder than I did last season.
“All I can say right now is that I am grateful for what the club has done for me and the fact that they still believe in me,” Mbaeva said.
Good season
Arrows had a relatively good season after finishing fourth, 20 points behind league winners Mamelodi Sundowns and three behind third-placed finishers Orlando Pirates.
