Housing nightmare haunts Henties
Low-cost houses, which appear to be falling apart, are a hazard to children playing in the area.

A member of the public has accused the Henties Bay municipality of negligence and corruption in the implementation of a low-cost housing project.
According to the source, who requested anonymity, taxpayer money is being squandered on the project.
“The municipal council has over the years become so corrupt that they do not even care about the lives of their citizens. This project is a major catastrophe,” they claimed.
The source suggested that the allegedly poorly-built structures be demolished so that loss of life can be avoided.
“Children play out in the desert, and apart from two external walls that have already collapsed, there is an internal wall that is about to collapse. If such a wall falls on a child, they are dead for sure.”
The source claimed to have first-hand information regarding money that was paid to the contractor – a corrupt deal through which councillors and senior officials are said to have benefitted.
Save the residents
“I have sufficient information to expose the Henties Bay town council and ensure that we get rid of them, but for now, you be the hero. Save the residents and decommission this project.”
When approached for comment, Henties Bay mayor Lewies Vermaak told Namibia Media Holdings that he only deals with the political aspects at the municipality, saying the CEO would be the right person to speak to about the matter.
Meanwhile, CEO Elizabeth Coetzee could not be reached for comment as her mobile phone went unanswered despite numerous attempts to reach her.
