Great athletics action at Zonals

The athletics season along the coast is reaching its peak, with the Welwitschias Schools Sports Zonals athletics competition which took place the past weekend in Swakopmund.
More than 500 athletes competed in track and field items, and hailed from both primary and secondary schools in Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Utuseb, Henties Bay and Arandis. Athletes who competed were between the age groups of under-13 and under-19.
Here are the first places in the various events, in each age group.

The top two athletes in each age group and event qualify for the regional athletics competition, depending on regional qualifying standards. This competition is set to take place on 22 February in Swakopmund at the Vineta Sports Stadium.
In addition, the Namibia Private Schools Organisation (NAPSO) Coca-Cola Wimpy athletics competition hosted by Pro-Ed Academy will see about 22 private schools competing against each other on 23 and 24 March at the Vineta Sports Stadium in Swakopmund.
The national athletics competition is slated for 18 April.
