Gospel concert for Covid-affected

Havana Three Way playground will host an array of soothing sounds from various Namibian artists come Sunday, 9 August, for the God Is Able gospel show. The profits from the concert will be donated to Covid-19 affected communities in Walvis Bay, especially those in quarantine facilities.
In an interview with tjil, gospel artist, TV presenter and graphic designer Andrew Halupe, who is one of the organisers of the event, shared that the God Is Able concert will also double as a day of prayer.
“Since March this year, when the lockdown was introduced, government has tried to implement measures to combat the coronavirus, however, it is still spreading.
“As Namibian gospel artists, we came together and set up a day of prayer in the form of this concert to meet government halfway by fighting this virus with prayer,” Halupe said.
Line-up
Artists on the line-up for this event include D-Naff, George Longane, Nashy Makoma and Ndjaby Shakuka, amongst others.
To ensure that social distancing measures are adhered to at the concert, Halupe told tjil that they will have 20 people, wearing the same T-Shirts, who will be entrusted to making sure spectators wear their masks and are sanitised upon entry and throughout the show.
“We chose Havana Three Way playground as the venue because it is an open area and thus will help in ensuring social distancing modalities. We have also requested the presence of the police to ensure these measures are adhered to.”
Offerings to be collected
Entrance will be free, but like in church, offerings will be collected, and these monies will be donated.
“Besides the prayers and music performances, there will also be three speakers to educate our people on this virus; one health official from the ministry of health and two pastors. The names will be revealed in due course,” Halupe added.
