Golf in Africa 'healthy': Dodds
The 2016 Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket amateur golf tournament is exceeding all expectations, with 11 countries taking part in what is the third edition of the tournament.
The tournament started three years ago with only five countries participating. This figure has grown to 11 countries this year - host Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The two-day tournament commenced at the Windhoek Country Club golf course on Friday.
The players are performing well, Namibian professional golfer Trevor Dodds told Nampa during on Saturday.
Dodds started his professional career in 1985 and has won several international tournaments.
“It seems to me golf in Africa is healthy and it is great that Windhoek Lager is taking the sport to club level. This will promote golf and make the sport grow,” he said.
Around 45 amateur golfers were battling it out to take home the Windhoek Lager trophy and Africa Jacket.
The tournament ended on Saturday and winners were expected to be announced at a gala dinner at the Windhoek Country Club Resort.
Stuart Krog won the 2015 event, and Mwalikwa Sondashi from Zambia won in 2014.
