Footballers, public to protest
A group of current and former footballers and concerned citizens will march today from Soweto Market in Windhoek to the Namibia Football Association (NFA) house at 10:00.
The group intends to hand over a petition to the football administrators demanding the stop of infighting and the start of football in the country.
One of the organisers of the marching group, Marvin Katire, hopes that their efforts will bring change towards football in the country, given that the beautiful game has been on halt for a year, with no premier league activities taking place.
“We are organising this march in an attempt to get football started and to plead with the leaders of football to find everlasting solutions.
“Many people have been affected by this and I believe it is time that the masses get their voices heard.
“We already have over a hundred people that have confirmed they will be marching with us,” Katire said.
The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed the Namibia Premier League case against the Fifa normalisation committee (NC).
This means that the NFA congress slated for Saturday, which is set to elect a new president and executive committee, will go ahead as planned.
Katire said they are however still concerned that those who did not win the case will continue seeking other alternatives, including going to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
“That is why we just want to show our concerns and plead with everyone to come to an agreement in order to avoid any other delays to the start of football in this country.
“The fact that there has been no premier league and first division football has left many players without anything to do and their families are starving,” Katire said.
